The greenhouse smells lovely today

Everything is pretty huge, and with hugeness comes plant smelliness.  All the plants smell amazing! It puts a smile on my face every morning to walk in there. I can't wait to bring this stuff to market so you can all see what I've been up too.

So here's a picture update!

Close up of one of the pepper plants. Sadly there hasn't been a huge amount of sun lately so somethings are more yellow then they should be.

Thyme is still a little rough but it's coming around slowly.

 Red cabbage just sprouted.

 Cauliflower is up!

As you can see my Siam basil is still huge. It will be on sale again soon.

My tomatillo's are so huge they've started to flower. I staked them today, they're so root bound they're having a hard time holding themselves up. Man i planted these things too early, i'm not sure what i was thinking.

A rack of all sorts of stuff.

Peppers!

Hawk feather farm's 3 shelves of stuff as well as some more peppers and tomatoes. The lettuce is looking amazing, i hope all you CSA share holders are excited!!

Onions got another hair cut today, they're doing really well in their beer cups.

I haven't posted recently only because i haven't had anything to post about. The lack of sun is making growth rates slow and life in general has been pretty chill. My last order of pots will be in soon and it's almost time to transplant all those peppers.
My garden finally appeared from under the snow this morning, it's almost time to get in there! I'm so pumped!

Woohoo I Sold Some Stuff!

I finally got to sell some herbs this weekend. I sold out of Cilantro and Sweet basil. I still have some Siam basil left. It felt wonderful to have people excited for something I've grown. I was also very excited i made some money and was able to order pizza.

This weekend some of the local farmers gave a presentation at the library about sustainable agriculture and soil science. The turn out was amazing! It gives me a lot of hope for the farmers market this summer. Hopefully we won't be going home with a truck load of food this summer.

I spent pretty much the entire weekend and Monday in the greenhouse. I finished transplanting the peppers finally, and i also planted some new things. I have cauliflower, red cabbage, and some other random stuff planted.

Today all the plants got some calcium, magnesium and molasses.

Here's a picture update!

Close up of some tomatoes

This is it for petunia's, 5 of them out of 265 seeds. I'll try again next year.

Some newly planted cauliflower and cabbage.

 Pepper close up!

Tomatoes and Hawk feather farm's stuff.

Everything for Hawk feather farm is doing really well. I thinned it all down yesterday and everything seems much happier.

Peppers! Loads and loads of peppers

 Peppers, tomatoes, and red onions.

Giant tomatillo's. They're so stretched, I feel bad for them. I really wish I had not planted them so early. They're going to grow into GIANT tomatillo shrubs though.

 What's left of the basil.

 New stuff!

That one bare shelf you see in the picture above is all the room I have left. I still have roughly 10 flats worth of stuff to plant and my mothers order of bedding plants is arriving soon. Also I have to fit my bedding plants in here somewhere. I'm not really sure how I'm going to do this, but I suppose I have to make it work.

I'm still trying to come up with a name for my farm and i can't think of anything. Anyone have any ideas?

Independent grocer is the best!

The produce manager at Independent is the best lady in the world. Thank you for the free roll of produce bags!

Picture Update!

Here are some pictures i took Wednesday while it was sunny. There has been no sun since...

Black Cherry Tomatoes

Hawkfeather farm's tomato's, lettuce, and peppers.

An onion!

Onions!

Giant pepper plants!

Tomatoes are doing well.

I'm not really sure why i planted my tomatillo's so early, they're almost 2 feet high.

Giant Siam basil.

Picture of my messy greenhouse.

That's all for now, nothing all that exciting happened lately. Still waiting on pots to continue transplanting.

Tuesday 16 April 2013

I do not have my shit together lately.

My title pretty much sums up my last week or so. I haven't had a chance to order my pots, finish transplanting, buy more beer cups, or even trim my onions. I was so behind on my housework; this weekend i had to catch up, my house looked like a disaster area. I haven't even been working out all that much. I seem to be in some sort of funk which i am going to blame on the fact that it NEVER STOPS SNOWING!!!

I'm not sure if i have enough room in my greenhouse to start everything and panic is starting to set it. I have about 4 shelves left and a shitload of stuff to plant on the 25th. Luckily i have friends with farms so hopefully i can house the extra there come June. Mostly it's just peppers, i have around 160 different types of peppers growing and i sure as hell don't have a greenhouse big enough to house that many 5 gallon pots. I really should have thought this through a lot better, but i never assumed ALL of the peppers would sprout and survive transplanting. My mother also purchases all her bedding plants at the end of May and they somehow have to fit in the greenhouse along with my bedding plants. I need a bigger greenhouse.

I have given up on the petunia's for this year, i have 6 that survived from the 265 planted. I have the seeds and trays for next year so i'll start again. I'm pretty sad that i screwed up my mom's petunias, but from what i can tell they're not that easy to grow. At least i learnt some new things about growing petunia's thanks to reddit and r/gardening.

Sadly i have no pictures today, not much has changed except that everything is FREAKING HUGE. Seriously, come buy some herbs from me, they're starting to take over. $2.00 a bunch!

I can finally use a hose!

It has finally warmed up enough for me to run a hose to the greenhouse to water. I haven't had to cart watering cans in a few days and it's pretty amazing. It's cut my watering time down to 15 min.

For the most part I've finished transplanting for now. I've run out of beer cups and 4" pots so i'm waiting for a shipment.

I've also let one of my farmer friends start some plants in the greenhouse, not sure how we're going to fit everything but I'll make it work.

Updated photo's!!!

I do have some basil for sale. If you would like some please send me a message on facebook or call my house.

A few of you may know that i take ballet classes a few times a week. I worked out a deal with one of my classes, in exchange for dyeing all their pointe shoes i get one day of free labor from each of them on the farm. SCORE! I think this is a pretty sweet deal!

The sun has actually been out for 2 days in a row, amazing! I can't wait for this snow to melt so i can get in the garden.

Transplanting

I've been so busy transplanting i haven't had time to update. I should be done by Monday and i'll have pictures and updates.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Giant basil and pure stupidity. Oh and the soil arrived!

I haven't posted any updated pictures of the plants recently so here you go.

Sweet Basil.

Siam Basil.

Close up of the giant Siam basil.

Onions that badly need to be transplanted.

Yellow Peppers.

Various tomato plants.

Hot peppers, orange peppers, yellow peppers, green peppers, sweet peppers, red peppers, so many damn peppers!!

The lack of sun is killing me, look at my sad stretched beyond belief tomatillo plants. They day i took this photo was the first day the sun was out in about a week. These are going to be so much fun to transplant.

My cilantro is slowly starting to come around.

More sad cilantro.

Transplanted onions. They're doing really really well. The root systems are amazing. I'll have to pull one and take a picture.

Today I had a moment of absolute stupidity and poured water all over my seeds...They're soaked. I really hope they don't germinate.

I left the best for last. Here it is; the sexiest thing I've seen in a while (okay maybe not). 30 bails of pro-mix. I already have 3 warming up in the greenhouse ready for transplanting tomorrow. I probably should have moved 10 but they're 60 lbs each and i wasn't in the mood.

The plants were fertilized with blood meal tea yesterday and have gone back to their regular dark shade of green. I've also discovered the smell of blood meal tea no longer bothers me and i actually find it rather comforting. So i suppose that means that i like the smell of decomposition...gross and weird.

Zombie lemon trees and sadistic gods

I seem to be cursed by the shipping gods. Almost everything i have ordered this year has some sort of issue getting to me, this time it's my skid of soil. I'm glad i had prepared for this and gave myself a fairly large amount of time for this skid to arrive because it's been lost. Some how an entire skid of pro mix has decided to run away like a teenage meth addict. It's either in Swastika (a town) or Toronto but no one really knows.
So i am at a stand still patiently waiting for my soil to arrive.

On a side note, I thought the lemon tree was immortal for a little while but as of today it is finally dead.
